The King of Swings Hands-On Sensorimotor Workshop

Alex offers practical ideas using suspension and non-suspension equipment to implement treatment interventions in the clinic, at school or at home. Hands on interventions to support breath, coordination, timing, balance, strength will be presented. Modifications, adaptions and grading of activities will be addressed to support best possible outcomes. Ideas for better engagement of the child will be addressed as well as discussion of ways to facilitate "play" for a stronger therapist-child relationship. This dynamic workshop will support participants through hands on learning as they experience the activities in their own bodies. Lastly, Alex will discuss how to create their own sensory equipment at a minimal cost.

About Alex, 'The King of Swings'

Alex Lopiccolo is an experienced Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Consultant. Alex is well known as The King of Swings. When he is not treating as a full time Sensory Integration Therapy practitioner he travels around the world sharing his knowledge of sensorimotor therapy with Paediatric Therapists and students at paediatric clinics and universities. He especially enjoys designing home sensory gyms so children and parents can have frequent movement and relaxation breaks throughout the day.

For almost a decade, Alex has been educating Paediatric Therapists in a sensory gym setting from around the world on Sensory Integration Therapy Theory. He educates then demonstrates large motor movements in space in order to improve brain-body connection. Learning by doing is his favourite style of teaching so therapists can better understand their own sensory processing so they can apply innovative activities with their special needs clients.
