OT Intensives at MoveAbout
MoveAbout is excited to offer our Occupational Therapy (OT) intensives to families this school holidays (6th-25th Jan, 2025). Intensive therapy can complement existing OT programs, and it can also be beneficial for families starting an OT program. The intensive framework is well-suited for families seeking a "boost" in a particular area of focus.Â
Learn more about our intensive services below, and if you're interested, simply fill out the form and our team will reach out to discuss if our intensive programs are a fit for you and your child.
What are OT Intensives
and who are they for?
An Occupational Therapy Intensive is a concentrated block of therapy sessions delivered in a short period of time, typically 5 or up to 10 one-hour sessions over 1-2 weeks. An intensive framework provides a summative (an add-on) effect for areas of focus, meaning that we build on gains each day.
Our team will work with you to identify areas of focus for the intensive for your child.
Therapy intensives can serve as a powerful start to a therapy program and are also an effective way to focus on specific areas or skills, complementing an existing OT program.
I'd like to learn more about IntensivesWhat can we work on in an OT intensive?
In an intensive we target a specific area for your child in order to get a boost in that area of development. Examples of areas of focus could be core and arms strengthening, regulation, social engagement or motor planning.
Below is a list of areas you could target within an occupational therapy intensive at MoveAbout:
- Posture: Establishing core stability for strength, security, and effective motor planning.
- Upper Extremity (UE): Enhancing coordination, strength, and precision for everyday tasks.
- Regulation & Interest in the World: Building self-regulation strategies and increasing engagement in a safe, supportive setting.
- Engagement: Supporting social communication and responsiveness.
- Praxis (i.e. motor planning): Developing motor planning skills, including ideation and sequencing.
- Parent Coaching: Empowering parents with tools and insights to support their child’s development at home. Intensives can often be a great opportunity for a parent or caregiver to join, when they generally can’t make it to sessions.Â
- Skill-Specific Areas: Targeted support for skills like bike riding, sport skills or handwriting.
Programs
Intensives are also a great way to commence or complete established therapeutic programs such as Interactive Metronome (IM), The Alert Program, Zones of Regulation, and The Beaker Kids.
